Zealandia
Zealandia is a submerged continent that is mostly underwater, located in the southwest Pacific Ocean. It covers an area of about 4.9 million square kilometers, with only a small portion, including New Zealand, rising above sea level. Scientists consider it a distinct geological entity due to its unique crust and geological features.
The concept of Zealandia was popularized in 2017 when researchers presented evidence supporting its classification as a continent. This includes its large size, distinct geology, and the presence of a continental crust. Zealandia provides insights into plate tectonics and the formation of landmasses on Earth.
