Zapotec Languages
The Zapotec languages are a group of indigenous languages spoken primarily in the Oaxaca region of Mexico. They belong to the Oto-Manguean language family and are known for their rich diversity, with around 50 distinct varieties. Each variety can differ significantly in vocabulary and pronunciation, making them unique to specific communities.
Zapotec languages have a long history, with roots tracing back over 2,000 years. They are often used in daily life, cultural practices, and traditional ceremonies. Efforts are being made to preserve these languages, as many speakers are aging and younger generations may not be learning them.
