Yovel (Jubilee)
The Yovel, or Jubilee, is a significant event in the Hebrew Bible that occurs every 50 years. It marks a time of restoration and freedom, where land that has been sold is returned to its original owners, and individuals who have become indentured servants are freed. This practice emphasizes the importance of community and the equitable distribution of resources.
During the Yovel, agricultural activities are also paused, allowing the land to rest. This period of rest not only benefits the soil but also serves as a reminder of the divine ownership of the land, reinforcing the idea that it is ultimately entrusted to the people by God.
