Sabbatical Year
A Sabbatical Year is a special year of rest and renewal that occurs every seven years in the agricultural cycle, primarily observed in ancient Israelite culture. During this year, farmers would let their fields lie fallow, allowing the land to recover and replenish its nutrients. This practice was rooted in the belief that the land should have a break, promoting sustainable farming.
In addition to resting the land, the Sabbatical Year also involved forgiving debts and freeing Hebrew slaves. This concept emphasized social justice and community well-being, ensuring that everyone had a chance to start anew and that resources were shared more equitably among the people.
