Young Irelanders
The Young Irelanders were a group of Irish nationalists active in the mid-19th century, primarily during the 1840s. They emerged from the broader Young Ireland movement, which sought to promote Irish culture and achieve political reform. The group was known for its literary contributions and advocacy for Irish independence from British rule.
In 1848, the Young Irelanders led a failed rebellion against British authority, known as the Young Irelander Rebellion. This uprising was part of a larger struggle for Irish self-governance and was influenced by the Revolutions of 1848 across Europe. Key figures included Thomas Davis and John Mitchel, who played significant roles in the movement's activities and writings.
