Yoshihito, Prince Imperial was born on August 31, 1909, as the only son of Emperor Taisho and Empress Teimei of Japan. He was the heir apparent to the Japanese throne and held the title of Prince Imperial. In 1926, following the death of his father, he became Emperor Showa, ruling Japan until his death in 1989.
