Yellow Turban Rebellion
The Yellow Turban Rebellion was a significant peasant uprising in ancient China that occurred during the late Han Dynasty, around 184 CE. It was led by a group of followers of the religious leader Zhang Jue, who promoted the idea of a new era of peace and prosperity. The rebellion was named after the yellow headbands worn by the rebels, symbolizing their cause against the corrupt Han government and social injustices.
The uprising was fueled by widespread discontent due to heavy taxation, famine, and the decline of the Han Dynasty's power. Although the rebellion was eventually suppressed by the Han military, it marked a pivotal moment in Chinese history, contributing to the eventual fall of the Han Dynasty and the rise of the Three Kingdoms period.
