Yellow Shirts
The "Yellow Shirts" refer to a political movement in Thailand that emerged in the mid-2000s. Officially known as the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD), this group is characterized by its supporters wearing yellow shirts as a symbol of their cause. They advocate for political reform and oppose the influence of Thaksin Shinawatra, a former prime minister, whom they accuse of corruption and undermining democracy.
The movement gained prominence during protests against the government, particularly during the 2006 coup that ousted Thaksin. The Yellow Shirts have played a significant role in shaping Thai politics, often clashing with their opponents, known as the "Red Shirts," who support Thaksin and his policies.
