Yajnopavita
Yajnopavita is a sacred thread worn by Hindu males, symbolizing their initiation into spiritual and social responsibilities. It is typically made of cotton or silk and is draped over the left shoulder, crossing the body to the right side. The thread signifies purity, knowledge, and the commitment to perform rituals and uphold dharma.
The ceremony of wearing the Yajnopavita, known as Upanayana, marks a significant rite of passage, often occurring during childhood. This ritual is traditionally associated with the Brahmin, Kshatriya, and Vaishya castes, emphasizing the importance of education and moral duty in a person's life.
