Women in Architecture
Women in architecture have historically faced significant barriers in a male-dominated field. Despite these challenges, many women have made substantial contributions to architecture, influencing design and urban planning. Notable figures include Zaha Hadid, the first woman to receive the Pritzker Architecture Prize, and Norma Merrick Sklarek, the first African American woman to become a licensed architect in the United States.
Today, organizations like The National Organization of Minority Architects and Women in Architecture advocate for greater representation and support for women in the profession. Efforts continue to promote diversity and inclusion, encouraging more women to pursue careers in architecture and related fields.
