Wolf Reintroduction
Wolf reintroduction is the process of bringing wolves back into areas where they have been extirpated or significantly reduced in population. This effort aims to restore ecological balance, as wolves play a crucial role in controlling prey populations and maintaining healthy ecosystems.
One notable example of wolf reintroduction occurred in Yellowstone National Park in the mid-1990s. After being absent for nearly 70 years, the reintroduction of wolves helped reduce the overpopulation of elk, which in turn allowed vegetation to recover and improved habitats for other species, demonstrating the positive effects of apex predators on biodiversity.
