Wittenoom
Wittenoom is a former mining town located in Western Australia, known for its blue asbestos deposits. Established in the 1940s, it was once a thriving community due to the mining of asbestos, which was used in various construction materials. However, the health risks associated with asbestos exposure led to the town's decline.
In 1966, Wittenoom was officially closed, and the government declared it a contaminated site. Today, it is largely abandoned, with only a few remnants of its past. The area is often referenced in discussions about the dangers of asbestos and the importance of public health awareness.
