Windrush Generation
The Windrush Generation refers to the group of people who arrived in the United Kingdom from the Caribbean between 1948 and 1971. This migration was largely prompted by the need for labor in post-World War II Britain, as the country sought to rebuild its economy. Many of these individuals traveled on the ship named MV Empire Windrush, which brought one of the first large groups of Caribbean migrants to the UK.
Members of the Windrush Generation played a significant role in shaping British society, contributing to various sectors such as healthcare, transportation, and culture. However, in recent years, some faced challenges related to immigration status, leading to the Windrush scandal, which highlighted issues of discrimination and injustice within the UK immigration system.
