Williams Treaties First Nations
The Williams Treaties First Nations are a group of Indigenous communities in Ontario, Canada, that were signatories to the Williams Treaties signed in 1923. These treaties were established to resolve land claims and recognize the rights of the First Nations in the area, particularly concerning hunting, fishing, and gathering rights.
The signatory communities include the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Curve Lake First Nation, and Hiawatha First Nation, among others. The treaties aimed to address historical grievances and provide compensation for lands that were taken without proper agreements. The Williams Treaties continue to play a significant role in the relationship between these First Nations and the Canadian government.
