Williamite War in Ireland
The Williamite War in Ireland (1689-1691) was a conflict between the supporters of King James II of England, known as the Jacobites, and the forces loyal to King William III, also called William of Orange. The war arose after James II was deposed in the Glorious Revolution and sought to regain his throne with the help of Irish Catholics who supported him.
The war included several key battles, such as the Battle of the Boyne in 1690, where William's forces achieved a decisive victory. The conflict ended with the Treaty of Limerick in 1691, which granted certain rights to Catholics but was later undermined by the Penal Laws.
