William Wilmot, 1st Earl of Rochester
William Wilmot, 1st Earl of Rochester, was an English nobleman born in 1628. He was a prominent figure during the English Civil War and served as a royalist supporter of King Charles I. In 1652, he was granted the title of Earl of Rochester, which elevated his status in the peerage.
Rochester was known for his political involvement and his role in the Restoration of the monarchy in 1660. He was also a member of the House of Lords and held various positions, including Lord Lieutenant of Kent. He passed away in 1688, leaving a legacy tied to the tumultuous events of his time.
