William Travis
William Travis was a 19th-century American soldier and a key figure in the Texas Revolution. Born on August 1, 1809, in South Carolina, he became a lawyer and later moved to Texas. Travis is best known for his leadership at the Battle of the Alamo, where he fought for Texan independence from Mexico.
Travis is remembered for his famous "Victory or Death" letter, which called for reinforcements during the siege of the Alamo. He died on March 6, 1836, during the battle, and his bravery has made him a symbol of resistance and sacrifice in Texas history.
