Sam Houston
Sam Houston was an important American military and political leader known for his role in the Texas Revolution. Born on March 2, 1793, in Virginia, he became a key figure in the fight for Texas independence from Mexico. Houston served as the first and third President of the Republic of Texas and was instrumental in the victory at the Battle of San Jacinto.
In addition to his leadership in Texas, Houston was also a U.S. Senator and Governor of Texas. He played a significant role in the annexation of Texas into the United States in 1845. Houston's legacy is celebrated in Texas history, and many places and institutions bear his name.
