William I, Duke of Normandy
William I, Duke of Normandy, also known as William the Conqueror, was born around 1028. He became the Duke of Normandy in 1035 after the death of his father, Robert I of Normandy. William faced many challenges during his early reign, including opposition from rival nobles and the need to consolidate his power in the region.
In 1066, William led the famous Norman Conquest of England after claiming the English throne. He defeated King Harold II at the Battle of Hastings, which marked a significant turning point in English history. William's reign brought about major changes in governance, land ownership, and culture in England.
