William Aberhart
William Aberhart was a Canadian politician and educator, best known as the founder of the Social Credit Party in Alberta. Born in 1878, he initially worked as a schoolteacher and later became a principal. Aberhart gained prominence during the Great Depression, advocating for economic reforms to help alleviate poverty and unemployment.
In 1935, Aberhart's party won a majority in the Alberta Legislature, making him the province's premier. His government implemented various social and economic policies, including the introduction of a basic income plan. Aberhart served as premier until his death in 1943, leaving a lasting impact on Alberta's political landscape.
