Willem Janszoon
Willem Janszoon was a Dutch explorer and navigator, known for being the first European to set foot on the Australian continent. In 1606, he sailed from the Netherlands to the region now known as Cape York Peninsula in Queensland, Australia, aboard the ship Duyfken. His expedition mapped parts of the coastline and made contact with Indigenous Australians.
Janszoon's journey marked a significant moment in the history of European exploration in the Pacific. Although he did not establish a permanent settlement, his discoveries contributed to the European understanding of the Australian land and its peoples, paving the way for future explorers.
