Whitcomb Judson
Whitcomb Judson was an American inventor born in 1846, best known for creating the first practical zipper. His invention, patented in 1893, was initially designed for use in shoes, allowing for easier fastening compared to traditional laces. Judson's design featured a series of interlocking metal teeth that could be opened and closed with a sliding mechanism.
Despite his innovative work, Judson's zipper did not gain immediate popularity. It wasn't until the 1910s, when Gideon Sundback improved upon his design, that the zipper became widely used in clothing and other applications. Today, the zipper is an essential component in fashion and textiles.
