Western alchemy
Western alchemy is an ancient practice that combines elements of philosophy, mysticism, and early science. Originating in Greco-Roman Egypt, it aimed to transform base metals into noble ones, such as turning lead into gold. Alchemists sought the Philosopher's Stone, a legendary substance believed to grant immortality and perfect matter.
Alchemists also explored the spiritual aspects of transformation, believing that personal enlightenment could be achieved through the process of material change. Their work laid the groundwork for modern chemistry, as they developed laboratory techniques and equipment that are still in use today.
