Western Tanager
The Western Tanager is a colorful songbird found primarily in western North America. Males are easily recognized by their bright yellow bodies, black wings, and red-orange heads, while females are more subdued in color, featuring yellow and olive tones. These birds typically inhabit coniferous and mixed forests, especially during the breeding season.
During migration, Western Tanagers travel to Central America for the winter. They primarily feed on insects, fruits, and berries, making them important for controlling insect populations and dispersing seeds. Their distinctive songs and calls add to the rich soundscape of their forest habitats.
