The Wellington Rugby Football Union (WRFU) is the governing body for rugby union in the Wellington region of New Zealand. Established in 1885, it oversees the administration and development of the sport at all levels, from grassroots to professional. The WRFU is responsible for organizing competitions, managing representative teams, and promoting rugby within the community.
The WRFU is also known for its successful provincial team, the Wellington Lions, which competes in the National Provincial Championship. The union plays a vital role in nurturing local talent and has produced many notable players who have gone on to represent New Zealand at the international level.
