Water-Repellent Fabrics
Water-repellent fabrics are specially treated materials designed to resist water penetration. These fabrics are often used in outdoor clothing, gear, and upholstery to keep users dry in wet conditions. The treatment typically involves applying a durable water repellent (DWR) finish that causes water to bead up and roll off the surface.
While water-repellent fabrics can resist light rain and moisture, they are not completely waterproof. Over time, the effectiveness of the DWR treatment can diminish, requiring reapplication to maintain performance. Common examples of water-repellent fabrics include nylon, polyester, and Gore-Tex.
