Water Moccasins
Water moccasins, also known as cottonmouths, are a type of venomous snake found primarily in the southeastern United States. They are typically recognized by their thick bodies, triangular heads, and dark coloration, which can range from brown to black. These snakes are often found near water sources like swamps, rivers, and lakes, where they hunt for fish and amphibians.
Water moccasins are known for their defensive behavior, often displaying their fangs and opening their mouths wide when threatened, revealing the white interior, which gives them the nickname "cottonmouth." While their venom can be dangerous to humans, bites are relatively rare, as these snakes prefer to avoid confrontation.
