War of the Bavarian Succession
The War of the Bavarian Succession (1778-1779) was a conflict primarily between the Kingdom of Prussia and the Habsburg Monarchy over the succession of the Bavarian throne. After the death of the childless Duke Maximilian III Joseph of Bavaria, the Habsburgs claimed the territory, leading to tensions with Prussia, which sought to expand its influence in the region.
The war was marked by limited military engagements and ended with the Treaty of Teschen in 1779. This treaty confirmed the status quo, with Bavaria remaining under Habsburg control, while Prussia gained some territories in Silesia. The conflict highlighted the shifting power dynamics in Central Europe during the 18th century.
