Walter McMillian
Walter McMillian was an African American man wrongfully convicted of murder in Alabama in 1988. He was accused of killing a white woman named Ronda Morrison, despite having a strong alibi and no physical evidence linking him to the crime. His case gained national attention due to the racial injustices and flaws in the legal system.
After spending six years on death row, McMillian's conviction was overturned in 1993, thanks in part to the efforts of Bryan Stevenson, a lawyer and founder of the Equal Justice Initiative. McMillian's story highlights the issues of wrongful convictions and systemic racism within the American criminal justice system.
