WASP-18
WASP-18 is an exoplanet located approximately 325 light-years away from Earth in the constellation Phoenix. It was discovered in 2009 and is classified as a hot Jupiter, meaning it is a gas giant similar in size to Jupiter but orbits very close to its host star, resulting in high surface temperatures.
The host star of WASP-18 is a bright, massive star known as WASP-18A. This star is about 10 times more massive than our Sun and has a temperature of around 1,500 degrees Celsius. The close proximity of WASP-18 to its star leads to extreme atmospheric conditions, making it a subject of interest for astronomers studying planetary atmospheres.
