WASP-12
WASP-12 is an exoplanet located about 870 light-years away in the constellation Auriga. It is classified as a hot Jupiter, meaning it is a gas giant similar in size to Jupiter but orbits very close to its host star, resulting in extremely high temperatures.
The planet was discovered in 2008 and is notable for its unusual characteristics, including a very short orbital period of just over one day. WASP-12 is also known for its distorted shape, which is caused by the strong gravitational pull of its star, leading to significant tidal forces.
