WASP-12b
WASP-12b is an exoplanet located about 870 light-years away from Earth in the constellation Auriga. It is classified as a hot Jupiter, meaning it is a gas giant similar in size to Jupiter but orbits very close to its star, resulting in extremely high temperatures.
The planet completes an orbit around its star, WASP-12, in just about 1.1 days. This rapid orbit causes intense tidal forces, leading to its unusual shape and extreme atmospheric conditions. WASP-12b is known for its dark atmosphere, which absorbs a significant amount of light, making it one of the darkest exoplanets discovered.
