W76
The W76 is a type of thermonuclear warhead developed by the United States. It is primarily designed for use on the Trident II (D5) submarine-launched ballistic missile system. The W76 has been in service since the 1970s and is known for its relatively compact size and yield, which is approximately 100 kilotons.
The warhead underwent a life extension program to ensure its reliability and effectiveness for future use. This program included updates to its components and systems, allowing the W76 to remain a key part of the U.S. nuclear deterrent strategy alongside other warheads like the W78 and W80.
