Viviparous
Viviparous refers to a reproductive strategy in which organisms give birth to live young rather than laying eggs. This process involves the development of embryos inside the body of the parent, where they receive nutrients and oxygen through a placenta or similar structure. Many mammals, including humans, are viviparous, allowing for a more extended developmental period and increased survival rates for the offspring.
In contrast to oviparous species, which lay eggs, viviparous animals often have a more complex reproductive system. This strategy is seen in various groups, including some reptiles, fish, and mammals. The ability to give birth to live young can provide advantages in certain environments, such as increased protection from predators and better adaptation to changing conditions.
