Viviparity
Viviparity is a reproductive strategy in which embryos develop inside the body of the parent, leading to live birth. This process is common in many mammals, including humans, where the developing young receive nutrients and oxygen through a structure called the placenta. Viviparous animals give birth to fully formed offspring, which can immediately begin independent life.
In contrast to oviparity, where eggs are laid outside the body, viviparity allows for greater protection of the developing young. This strategy is also seen in some reptiles and fish, such as certain species of sharks and lizards, showcasing the diversity of reproductive methods in the animal kingdom.
