Vito Volterra
Vito Volterra was an Italian mathematician and physicist, born on October 3, 1860, in Ancona, Italy. He is best known for his contributions to mathematical biology, particularly in the study of predator-prey dynamics through the Volterra equations. His work laid the foundation for understanding ecological systems and population dynamics.
In addition to his work in biology, Volterra made significant advancements in functional analysis and integral equations. He served as the president of the Italian Mathematical Society and was involved in various scientific organizations throughout his career. Volterra passed away on October 11, 1940.
