Virunga Mountain
The Virunga Mountains are a volcanic mountain range located in East Africa, straddling the borders of Rwanda, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. This region is known for its stunning landscapes, including lush forests and steep peaks, with the highest point being Mount Karisimbi at 4,507 meters (14,783 feet). The area is part of the Virunga National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site, which is home to diverse wildlife.
The Virunga Mountains are particularly famous for their population of mountain gorillas, which are critically endangered. Conservation efforts in the region focus on protecting these gorillas and their habitat, as well as promoting eco-tourism. The mountains also feature other unique species, making them an important area for biodiversity and ecological research.
