Victor Yanukovych
Victor Yanukovych is a Ukrainian politician who served as the President of Ukraine from 2010 until 2014. He was born on July 9, 1950, in the Donetsk region. Yanukovych was a member of the Party of Regions, a political party that represented the interests of the Russian-speaking population in Ukraine. His presidency was marked by political turmoil and widespread protests, particularly against his decision to suspend an association agreement with the European Union.
In February 2014, following months of protests known as the Euromaidan, Yanukovych fled Ukraine amid escalating violence. His departure led to a change in government and significant political shifts in the country. After leaving Ukraine, he was granted asylum in Russia, where he has remained since. Yanukovych's presidency is often associated with corruption and authoritarianism, which contributed to his unpopularity.
