Vernicia Fordii
Vernicia Fordii, commonly known as the tung tree, is a deciduous tree native to China and Taiwan. It typically grows to a height of 10 to 20 meters and features large, heart-shaped leaves. The tree produces small, fragrant white flowers that bloom in spring, followed by round, green fruit that contains seeds.
The seeds of the tung tree are notable for their oil, known as tung oil, which is used in woodworking and as a drying agent in paints and varnishes. Additionally, the tree is valued for its ability to thrive in poor soil conditions, making it a useful species for reforestation and soil stabilization efforts.
