Vela Supernova Remnant
The Vela Supernova Remnant is the remains of a massive star that exploded in a supernova about 11,000 years ago. Located in the constellation Vela, this remnant is approximately 800 light-years away from Earth. It spans about 50 light-years across and is composed of gas and dust ejected during the explosion.
This remnant is notable for its bright emission of X-rays and radio waves, making it a key object of study in astrophysics. The Vela Pulsar, a rapidly spinning neutron star, is located at the center of the remnant and is a source of regular pulses of radiation.
