Valley of the Queens
The Valley of the Queens is an ancient burial site located near Luxor, Egypt. It served as the final resting place for the wives and children of the pharaohs during the New Kingdom period, specifically from the 18th to the 20th dynasties. The valley contains over 90 tombs, with the most famous being that of Nefertari, the beloved wife of Ramses II.
The tombs in the Valley of the Queens are known for their intricate wall paintings and elaborate decorations, which depict scenes from Egyptian mythology and the afterlife. These artworks provide valuable insights into ancient Egyptian beliefs and customs. The site is part of the larger Theban Necropolis, which includes other significant locations like the Valley of the Kings.
