Valley of Fires
The Valley of Fires is a unique geological area located in southern New Mexico, near the town of Carrizozo. This site features a vast expanse of lava flows created by volcanic eruptions approximately 5,000 to 10,000 years ago. The black basalt rock formations and rugged landscape provide a striking contrast to the surrounding desert scenery.
The area is part of the Valley of Fires Recreation Area, which offers opportunities for hiking, camping, and wildlife observation. Visitors can explore the trails that wind through the lava fields, learning about the region's volcanic history and diverse ecosystems along the way.
