Valborgsmässoafton
Valborgsmässoafton, or Walpurgis Night, is celebrated on April 30th in Sweden and marks the arrival of spring. The tradition involves lighting large bonfires, which symbolize the burning away of winter and the welcoming of warmer days. People gather around these fires to enjoy music, food, and festivities.
The celebration has roots in ancient pagan customs and is named after Saint Walpurga, an 8th-century abbess. In addition to bonfires, many communities hold parades and sing traditional songs, creating a festive atmosphere that brings people together to celebrate the changing season.
