Sankta Lucia
Sankta Lucia, or Saint Lucy, is a Christian martyr celebrated on December 13th, particularly in Sweden and other parts of Scandinavia. She is known for her unwavering faith and dedication to helping the poor. The festival of Sankta Lucia marks the beginning of the Christmas season, symbolizing light in the darkness of winter.
During the celebrations, young girls dress in white robes with red sashes, often wearing a crown of candles on their heads to represent Lucy's light. Processions and songs, including the traditional Santa Lucia song, are performed, creating a festive atmosphere that honors her legacy and brings communities together.
