VEGF
VEGF, or Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor, is a protein that plays a crucial role in the formation of blood vessels. It is essential for processes like wound healing and the growth of new blood vessels, a process known as angiogenesis. VEGF is produced by various cells in the body, especially in response to low oxygen levels.
In addition to its role in normal physiological processes, VEGF is also involved in certain diseases. For example, excessive VEGF production can contribute to the growth of tumors in cancer, as it promotes the development of blood supply to the tumor. This makes VEGF a target for some cancer therapies.
