VDRL
The VDRL test, or Venereal Disease Research Laboratory test, is a blood test used to screen for syphilis, a sexually transmitted infection. It detects non-specific antibodies that the body produces in response to the infection. While it is a useful screening tool, it is not specific to syphilis and can yield false-positive results due to other conditions.
If the VDRL test is positive, further testing is usually required to confirm the diagnosis of syphilis. More specific tests, such as the Treponema pallidum particle agglutination assay, can help determine if the infection is present. Early detection and treatment are crucial for preventing complications.
