United States Civil Service Commission
The United States Civil Service Commission was established in 1883 to oversee the hiring and management of federal employees. Its main goal was to ensure that government jobs were filled based on merit rather than political connections, promoting fairness and efficiency in the federal workforce.
In 1978, the commission was replaced by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) and the Merit Systems Protection Board. These organizations continue to uphold the principles of merit-based hiring and protect the rights of federal employees, ensuring a professional and accountable civil service.
