United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus
The United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) was established in 1964 to prevent further conflict between the Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots. The mission aims to maintain peace and stability on the island, which has been divided since 1974 following a Turkish invasion in response to a Greek-led coup.
UNFICYP monitors the ceasefire lines, facilitates humanitarian assistance, and supports efforts for a political solution to the ongoing division. The force consists of military personnel from various countries and works closely with local communities to promote dialogue and understanding between the two communities.
