Union Territory
A Union Territory is a type of administrative division in India that is governed directly by the Central Government. Unlike states, which have their own governments, Union Territories often have a Lieutenant Governor or an Administrator appointed by the President of India. This arrangement allows for more direct control by the central authority, especially in regions that may require special attention or have unique circumstances.
There are currently eight Union Territories in India, including Delhi, Puducherry, and Chandigarh. These territories can vary in size and population, and some, like Delhi, have their own legislative assemblies, while others do not. The status of Union Territories allows for flexibility in governance and administration.
