Umaid Singh was a prominent Indian royal and the last Maharaja of the princely state of Jodhpur. He ruled from 1918 until 1947, when India gained independence. He is also remembered for the construction of the Umaid Bhawan Palace, a magnificent structure built between 1928 and 1943, which served as his residence.
